Businessman’s child porn computer shame
11:10am Saturday 28th January 2012
A BUSINESSMAN downloaded indecent images of children and extreme animal pornography, a court heard.
Wayne Smith, aged 41, had his computer seized when police raided his home in May last year.
They discovered 248 obscene images including some classed at level four. Level five is the most serious. When they went back to arrest Smith in July, they discov- ered he had another computer, which was checked and had 57 level one pictures.
Smith, of Alexander Road, Tonge Moor, pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of possession of indecent images of children and one count of posses- sion of images offensive or obscene in character.
Judge William Morris said the offences passed the custody threshold. He said: “It is a shock- ing trade and people who indulge in it can expect to go to prison.“ But the judge decided it was in the public interest for Smith to receive help. He was given a three-year community order and placed on the internet sex offend- ers programme.
